Problem

A global forum needs one coherent system, fast. FII 2019 ran at conference scale, hundreds of speakers, dozens of countries, thousands of senior attendees. It needed a visual system that held from a phone screen to a printed program to a physical room, produced under hard deadlines.

The design problem was consistency at volume: keep the platform coherent across hundreds of assets and several international handoffs without it fragmenting.

System

Asset families, not one-off deliverables. Five asset families gave the system a repeatable backbone, so the digital, environmental, and print pieces all read as one event.

Production ran through international handoffs and on-site days, so the system had to survive moving between teams and from screen to print to physical space.

01

Asset-family system

A repeatable backbone.

02

Digital + print + environmental

One logic, three media.

03

International handoffs

Legible to other teams.

04

On-site execution

Held up in the room.

Decisions

Four choices kept it coherent at volume. At this scale the failure mode is not a bad asset, it is a thousand slightly different ones, so each decision favored a system another team could pick up over a piece only its maker could finish. All four had to be made before the volume arrived, which is the only point at which they are cheap to make.

01

Build families, not one-offs

Five asset families kept hundreds of pieces coherent and fast to produce.

02

One system, three media

The same logic carried from screen to print to environment.

03

Design for handoff

With international handoffs, it had to read to other teams, not just its maker.

04

Hold up on-site

On-site days meant the work survived the real room, not just the comp.

Reflection

FII was production at conference scale under real deadlines. It's the proof that systems thinking holds up when the work has to move fast, span three media, pass between international teams, and stand up in a physical room, not just on screen.
