SERVE & SCALE
Brand Strategy

PRATIK MEHTA | 2026 PORTFOLIO
DealNews has served a loyal base of deal-hunters through its iOS and Android apps, which had grown alongside the website but lagged behind in design consistency and feature parity. With 17 million monthly users, even incremental UX improvements had the potential to move meaningful engagement metrics.

Audited the existing iOS and Android app experience against the DealNews website, documenting inconsistencies in branding, iconography, and login architecture. Identified core user pain points: no third-party login support, no account sync between app and web, limited filtering capabilities, and an outdated visual design that undermined trust. Prioritized feature additions and design updates based on user behavior data and internal team feedback.
Redesigned the login screen to support third-party authentication via Google, Apple, and Facebook, and introduced account sync to create a seamless cross-platform experience. Updated the home screen with a new filter bar for deal sorting, refreshed iconography aligned to the website's visual system, and introduced modal marketing channels for in-app messaging and promotions. Delivered a cohesive visual update that brought the app in line with the existing DealNews brand.
Worked in close collaboration with the iOS and Android development teams, providing detailed design specifications, assets, and component documentation for each updated screen. Iterated on designs based on technical constraints and developer feedback throughout the build process. Conducted design QA to ensure final implementations matched intended layouts across device sizes.

The redesign was rooted in a single guiding principle: the app and website should feel like one seamless product, not two separate experiences. By closing the feature gap, particularly around login, search sync, and brand consistency, users gained a reason to stay in the app rather than defaulting to mobile web. The updated experience contributed to an 18% increase in on-site conversions following the rollout.
