The Ninth

BRAND GUIDELINES · V1

The membership you join, not the merch you buy. These guidelines define how The Ninth looks, sounds, and behaves as an additive sub-brand under Cloud9. One principle holds it together: altitude. Everything climbs toward cloud nine.

01

The idea

Cloud9 has elite brand equity and one of the few esports identities with real staying power. What it has never built is a year-round home for the fandom. The Ninth is that home: a membership that turns watching into belonging, where status is earned and access is real.

Positioning

The Ninth turns Cloud9 fandom into a place, not a purchase. Status is earned, access is real, and the brand a fan already wears becomes somewhere they log into every day.

The altitude principle

The whole system is a climb. The higher you go, the closer you get to cloud nine, from the daytime blue Cloud9 already owns up to the night sky above the clouds. Hierarchy, color, motion, and status all move in one direction: up.

The governing constraint. Cloud9 wins by being calm, premium, and fashion-credible, the deliberate opposite of the screaming-gamer register. The Ninth holds that line everywhere, closer to a members' club or a fashion house than a game launcher.

03

Cloud9 lockup

The Ninth is an additive membership sub-brand under Cloud9, never a replacement for it. In any co-branded context, use the endorsement lockup. The Cloud9 master logo is never restyled. The tie between the brands is the shared blue, #29ABE2.

04

Color

Anchored on the Cloud9 blue and built as an altitude gradient: cloud white, brand blue, climb blue, and the altitude night reserved for the summit. No warm accents. The premium signal at the top is Frost, not gold.

Let the page breathe. Blue is a punctuation color, never a flood.

Contrast and accessibility

Cloud9 Blue is a brand accent, not a body-text color. The honest rule: use Altitude Night for text on light, Cloud White or Frost for text on dark, and reserve the brand blue for fills, large display, and UI accents where it passes.

05

Typography

Two typefaces. Array for display and marks, a wide pixel-grid face that gives the esports layer its arcade charge. Satoshi for everything readable, a clean geometric sans. Both are open-source, which keeps the system buildable across web and product.

StyleFace / weightSize / trackingUse

Body copySatoshi 400 / 50016 to 17px · 1.6Paragraphs, UI
CaptionArray Regular11 to 13px · .14em · capsTags, meta, tiers

Rules. Headers in sentence case, only the wordmark and captions go uppercase. Tabular numerals for tiers and member indices. One accent color per view. Never letter-space the body.

06

Tone of voice

Calm at altitude. The Ninth never shouts. Confidence is quiet, the wit is dry, and the fan comes first in every sentence. If a line feels like a hype drop or a casino, it is wrong.

01

Calm at altitude

Confidence without volume. No exclamation stacks, no caps-lock, no countdown-clock urgency.

Yes: You are in. Welcome to the Ninth.
No: UNLOCK INSANE MEMBER PERKS NOW
02

Earned, not hyped

We talk about belonging and access, never FOMO. Status is something you climbed to, not something we sold you.

Yes: The Inner Nine is earned, not bought.
No: Buy your way to VIP today
03

Fan first, org second

Lead with what the fan gets. The org and the upsell come after the belonging, never before it.

Yes: Never miss your team's moment.
No: Drive recurring revenue with tiers
04

Dry wit, never cringe

It is in on the joke and light on its feet, never trying too hard, and it reads closer to a good caption than a hype man.

Yes: Cloud nine, year round.
No: LET'S GOOO C9 NATION GG

07

Art direction

One world: sky and cloud, read as an altitude gradient from daytime to night. Aerial, atmospheric, premium, with air around everything. The opposite of neon RGB esports energy.

Daytime · Open, Member
Dusk · Insider
Night · Inner Nine

Photography

Players and fans shot clean and premium, with breathing room and a cool grade. Think a fashion lookbook that happens to be about a team, not a tournament key-art blowout. Generative tools (Midjourney) set the cloud-and-altitude world fast as a methodology layer, then the deliverables are designed and art-directed by hand.

Do

  • Air, atmosphere, cool tones, restraint.
  • Altitude gradient as the connective tissue.
  • Premium, fashion-forward framing.

Don't

  • Neon RGB, lens flares, fire, smoke.
  • Aggressive diagonal "gamer" energy or clutter.
  • Stock-looking hype crowds or screaming faces.

08

Motion

One rule: everything ascends and eases. The brand moves like air, not like a fighting game. Calm, never frantic, with weight at the top of the climb.

Rise

Enter from below

Cards, alerts, and surfaces drift up into place, the way you rise through cloud. Never drop in or snap.

Ease

Soft, no bounce

Ease-out, 240 to 400ms. No elastic bounce, no overshoot. Premium reads as controlled.

Summit

Frost shimmer

Reserved for Inner Nine. A slow iridescent pass across the grail card on level-up. Used once, not looped.

The moment-alert behavior. When the AI clipper catches a moment, the alert card rises from the bottom edge like a cloud cresting, settles, and holds. It is a calm tap on the shoulder, never a jarring buzz. The motion is the brand promise: we tell you when to look up.

09

The member card

The spine of the identity and the hero object: a collectible, fashion-grade pass that levels visibly as a fan climbs. The card rises through the sky: Open sits in the clouds, Member in clear daytime blue, Insider at dusk, and Inner Nine in the night above the clouds with a frost IX. The grail you cannot buy.

Anatomy

THE NINTH IX IX Inner Nine EARNED, NOT SOLD @yourhandle 09 / 09
  1. Wordmark. Top-left, neutral, always present.
  2. Tier numeral. Roman, top-right. I, II, III, IX. Frost only at Inner Nine.
  3. Altitude treatment. The card's sky tells the tier: clouds, daytime blue, dusk, or night above the cloud sea.
  4. Tier name. The status, in Array.
  5. Status line. One phrase of belonging, not a perk list.
  6. Member handle. The fan, named. The card is theirs.
  7. Member index. Position out of nine, tabular numerals. Scarcity that reads as honor, not a price.
  8. Frost grail mark. The large IX, Inner Nine only. The thing you cannot buy.

Governance

How The Ninth sits under Cloud9, and the rules that keep it credible.

Relationship

The Ninth is an additive membership layer, not a rebrand. The Cloud9 master logo is never altered. The brands are tied by the shared blue and joined only through the approved endorsement lockup.

The one rule that protects it

The summit is earned, never sold. Inner Nine cannot be purchased. Break that and The Ninth becomes the pay-to-flex pass it was built to replace.

The Ninth is a speculative concept anchored to Cloud9 for portfolio purposes. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Cloud9. The Cloud9 blue (#29ABE2) is referenced as the anchor for a new sub-brand layer; the Cloud9 master logo is not used or restyled here. Industry figures behind this work are gathered June 2026 and sourced in the research file. No figure describes Pratik Mehta's own results. Typefaces: Array and Satoshi, both open-source.
